Watt Murray

A hundred miles north in Priestley’s home town of Leeds, Matthew Murray was preparing to leave employment in a mill to found his own steam engine start-up. Watt’s son, also James, competed aggressively with Murray, sending spies and buying up land to stop him expanding his business.
